President’s message - Knock, knock!

Message for the week of July 28th

Knock, knock!

Who's there?
Shabbat.
Shabbat who?
Shabbat we spend together becomes a memory we carry forever!

Summer has a wonderful way of slowing us down just enough to notice what matters most.

This month I have had the joy of spending time with my two amazing eight-year-old grandchildren. Watching them explore, ask questions, laugh, learn, and simply delight in the world has reminded me how quickly the years pass—and how beautifully our Jewish values are passed along from one generation to the next.

I see kindness in the way they treat others. Curiosity in the questions they ask. Pride in their Jewish identity. Joy in celebrating our traditions. As "Bubbe", there is no greater gift than seeing those timeless values take root in the next generation.

Judaism has always been a story told around family tables, on Shabbat evenings, during holidays, on hikes through nature, and in the simple moments of everyday life. It reminds us that we are connected—not only to our own families, but to a much larger family that stretches across Lake Tahoe, across our country, and throughout the world.

As you enjoy these beautiful summer days, I hope you find time to unplug, breathe the mountain air, paddle a kayak, hike a favorite trail, share a meal with loved ones, or simply watch a Tahoe sunset. These are the moments that become treasured memories.

Wherever your summer adventures take you, remember that our congregation is always here—a place of friendship, belonging, learning, celebration, and caring for one another. We are stronger because we share not only our traditions, but our lives.

May the weeks ahead be filled with laughter, discovery, renewal, and gratitude. May you make memories that your children and grandchildren will one day pass on to theirs.

From our family to yours, have a joyful, safe, and memory-filled summer.

L'dor va-dor — from generation to generation.

Warmly,

Heidi Doyle
President
North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation
